I admit that I have become obsessed with the trials and tribulations of Britney Spears. I have become a closet TMZ junkie just to check out what disaster or embarrassment she is into on any given day. I have even see my brother Mark Cuban on their site now and then. He always takes it in stride when the paps whoop down on him. He even has some fun with them. It has been great to see Britney make what appears to be a solid recovery. I can empathize with her. While I have never shaved my head (the passage of time is taking care of that), I have had my own struggles with alcohol and the party scene. It doe not mater what your income level or profession is. Drunken idiocy does not discriminate. I am proud that I hit 18 months sober last week. The idiocy re-appears now and then but at least now I make informed idiotic choices. Whenever I see a story about Britney I can not help but think back to a night that our paths crossed and we were both doing what we did best, getting drunk and being idiots.
It was December 2003. I was in NYC on business trip. After arriving my plans were canceled at the last second. I called a friend of mine, Marc Roberts Marc was a well known sports agent in NYC. He hooked me up with this very interesting Haitian guy named Unik and his partner KyKy. They are very well known party planner/club promoters in NYC. They currently have a lounge called Bijoux. Unik is also involved with Russell Simmons in charitable effort called The Diamond Empowerment Fund.
Unik had been asked to set up a last minute party for Britney’s 21st birthday. He took me a long as his guest. We started out at a restaurant sitting at a table of about ten 18-20 year old Ford Models right next to George Clooney who was there with a few of his buddies. After about 3 hours of drinking, we all stumbled over to a nightclub called Suite 16(now closed) . We drank while we waited for Britney…… and we drank while we waited for Britney….. and we drank while we waited for Britney…. Britney finally showed up at 5 a.m. By that time the only train wreck in the room was me after drinking since 8 p.m. I had a 7 am flight back to Dallas.
Britney bopped in surrounded by the 3 biggest guys I have ever seen. This was before it was in style for celebrities to have wiry ex-Israeli Secret Service Mosad types as bodyguards. These were just huge “Mr. T” bouncer type dudes. You would not have known Britney was hidden between them but for the blonde hair contrasting with their all black outfits. They gravitated to a roped off table where Justin Timberlake was already sitting with some friends. This was a few years before he started looking for sexy. Britney did not appear happy he was there. She clearly didn’t want him there. She threw a fit that made every room spinning minute of my 8 hour drunk and the prospects of the porcelain prayer worth while. I heard the fight got a great write up in the NY Post. After watching her try to scratch Justin’s eyes out with nasty looks and curse words until he booked I decided the better part of valor was to get my stuff and get to the airport still drunk.
So ended my evening with Britney Spears. I even left my expensive trench coat at the club. Anyone have Justin’s address so I can get it back? Maybe I can get Britney to autograph it for me. I was never a Justin fan. Maybe one day he will manage to bring sexy back. Maybe I can trade him my coat for some.

Her Womanizer video is everywhere but I’m not nuts about it (shrug). Glad to find your page and stop by to read your work, as alway.

You jet-setter you…forget about Justin, he will be bald and fat soon and then will probably try to sell his sexy on ebay. Like that bloated guy from Loverboy who sold his smelly orange leather pants for $200.

It’s funny how much people pay attention to her, do you have nothing better to do with your life? She’s famous, she’ll do stupid things, what’s new? None of it. Everyone’s just making a hype about her doing it because she went from little miss innocent to wrecking her life.

Hey Brian, Your story entertained me while I sit here at Ebby Halliday waiting for the phone to ring. Thanks so a slow market… I need some entertainment. I am a “closet” Britney fan. I have hoped for her recovery for a long time. I hope she makes it this time and doesn’t fall off the wagon once again! Thanks for the insightful story. It gave me a laugh. Congrats on your 18 months! That’s great!

Yep, although I love her to smithereens I will always feel down that she went off the rails a way back.
