Has anyone noticed more senate hearings revolving around sports these days? Steroids, and the whole Roger Clemens fiasco. But let's just talk about the future here...Will Bonds and Pete Rose get in the Hall of Fame? Have a senate hearing to find out! Oh, and if they have a senate hearing on Clemens and his extra affairs, this country will go bankrupt with the long line of questioning of the women in the case.

Don't forget the Sandy Berger investigation. We *still* don't know what he stole from the National Archives.

While I agree that the proposed "Spy Gate" investigations are a waste of time, one issue people like you forget that the NFL and MLB both operate under exemptions to the Sherman Anti-Trust laws. This means Congress can involve themselves with the operations of both leagues. "Spy Gate" is a waste of money as the NFL has already investigated the matter, found little to no wrong doing and Matt Walsh's tapes revealed NOTHING new, the steroids issue in MLB is tied to public policy on drug abuse. Steroids are controlled substances and banned by the league. If MLB is unwilling to properly clean up the sport then they invite Congress to do it for them. Personally I wish Selig would grow a spine, kick Fehr in the nuts and tell him how things are going to be so Congress could focus on more important issues. There is a huge problem with this logic however. You're assuming Congress is either a) capable of dealing with important issues or, more likely b) unwilling to deal with more important issues. We have a President who has failed us and continues to fail us yet Congress is unwilling to perform its Constitutional duty and investigate the President. These minor sports related issues allow them to waste time so they don't have to deal with the more pressing issues, ones which might keep them from being re-elected in future elections.

Good post. It does give one pause as to why those hearings have to be so wasteful (and exist in the first place). I am reminded of the oxymoron 'government intelligence' and while I am generally pro-law, order and responsible govmt., I hardly need a bunch of elected blue bloods to point out the obvious. Private enterprise, with prodding from law enforcement if needed, needs to flush out the wrong doers ... and the talking heads need to go back to serving our greater needs.

And right you are...if they made these 'inquiries' into a reality TV show, they could at least recoup some of the expense through ad revenue!

Michael M.s last blog post..<a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/DaddiosDailyDose/~3/290403627/deals-organizational-principle.html" rel="nofollow">Deal's Organizational Principle</a>
