Prior to this last weekend I did not know much at all about Debbi Schussel. I now know more than I ever care to. I will say that Debbie did me a huge favor. She exposed me to mainstream Islamophobia. It was quite an education. I now know who Debbie Schussel is. She is front and center as the leader of the Islam0phobic, hate mongering mob. In many respects she is the mob.
How was I lucky enough to get this free education in hatred? It all started with several tweets of mine hours after the tragic mass shooting at Fort Hood. I was concerned with what I saw as an anti-Muslim backlash on twitter and Facebook rather than focusing on the victims of the tragedy and the specific individual involved. Some of the backlash shockingly coming from people I thought I knew. Here is my 1st tweet on the issue:
I find it sad that absolutely nothing has been announced, investigated or proven yet the twitter hate mongering of Muslims has already begun4:36 PM Nov 5th from web
On Saturday, I was alerted that Debbie had mentioned me in a blog she had written. Here is in part what she wrote:
“As you know by now, the “experts”–including fake doctor, Dr. Phil, and Mark Cuban’s brother (on Twitter)–are lecturing us that Dr. Nidal Malik Hasan, didn’t kill at least 13 American soldiers and injure at least 31 other soldiers because he’s a devout Muslim.”
I really did not consider a tweet hours after the incident on the scale of a lecture… but that’s ok. That’s what bigots and hate mongers do to justify their positions. They re-write history just like Holocaust Denial. Debbie is good at that. She goes on to state:
“Or because he apparently wrote sympathetic, anti-American messages online approving terrorist attacks on American soldiers. Or because America spoiled him with free college and medical tuition courtesy of taxpayers, which he repaid by hiring a lawyer and killing soldiers. Or because he yelled “allahu Akbar” [allah is the greater or greatest (meaning greater than the Christian or Jewish deities)]. Or because he allegedly handed out Korans before the attack. Or because he was a member of the extremist, pan-jihadist Islamic Society of the Washington Area, which was trying to help this pious Palestinian Muslim find a devout Islamic wife (and had no luck in doing so).”
I will take Debbie at her word that all of the above is true but to my knowledge, none of that was reported at that time I tweeted. My tweets were to withhold judgment until more was known and to express concern at the general anti-Muslim backlash. What’s more, even if I had known all of the above at the time, I still would not subscribe to Debbie’s(who is an attorney) brand of hatred towards all Muslims. I would focus on prosecuting the individual involved and hopefully him getting the needle if convicted.
Again Debbie engaging in revisionism designed to perpetrate hate on an entire religious base rather than focus on an individual’s acts..
I responded with a Tweet thanking her for distancing me from her extremist views but later decided that it was not worth an exchange. I therefore deleted the tweet. Here was her next tweet to me:
@bcuban Hey, Brian Cuban, Y did U remove your 2 tweets attacking me & defending Islam re- Mass murderer @ ft. Hood? Couldn’t Take the heat?5:26 PM Nov 7th from web
Defending a Mass Murderer? Not sure how she got there but hey, we get back to her skills at creating facts that do not exist. She is good at it so why not use it… In fact, anyone who knows me even fairly well, knows that I am the Executive Director of the Fallen Patriot Fund. We have given out more money than Debbie will ever hope to make in 10 lifetimes to soldiers from Fort Hood and all over the country wounded in OIF.
Here was my response to Debbie:
@DebbieSchlussel because you are not relevant enough to bother with-you appeal to a narrow extreme following that I could care less about5:43 PM Nov 7th from Tweetie in reply to DebbieSchlussel
Fast forward to yesterday. Debbie and I had a rather contentious email exchange on an un-related matter. If you doubt that, my last email to her was to “F**K Off”. Not quite gentlemanly but then again, I was not dealing with a lady.
Here are excerpts from one of her emails. I am only posting bits and pieces so as not drag the other personal issue involving another individual into this. If she brings it up then I will address it in full.
“PS, Brian:
I have had five very serious death, rape, and torture threats on my life and my family member’s lives, all of them from Muslims, three of whom were prosecuted.”
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/2946/religion-of-peace-muslim-indicted-another-guilty-for-death-threats-against-schlussel/
“You really are clueless when you defend these very violent people. They, of course, don’t threaten you b/c you don’t fight and beat them in court as I do,”
“and you don’t expose them–as I do–when they march in groups of ten thousand praising the Nazis and Hezbollah. Wake the heck up.”
Debbie went on in her blog to question my free speech values because I tweeted that it was “unfortunate” that the shooters name was released so early in the process as the Islamic sounding name is what started the backlash.
It is absolutely laughable that Debbie would question my record on free speech. In 2002 Debbie filed a lawsuit designed to stop Pro-Palestinian conference. A lawsuit that was ironically “laughed out of court”.
Yes, you are ALL ABOUT free speech Debbie! Funny she did not mention this in her emails to me. There we go with that revisionism again. I advise her not quit her day job as a hate monger to become a Constitutional Law specialist.
We get it Debbie. You are angry at “these people“. You’re afraid of “these people” You have been wronged by Muslims. You therefore hate all Muslims and can rattle off one million and one excuses hat you call reasons to justify your hatred. Just Like the person mugged by an African-American who then hates all African-Americans. Like the person whose job was taken by the Hispanic illegal in Texas and therefore hates all Hispanics. Like the non-Jewish German in 1939 who feels wronged by a Jew and therefore hates all Jews. At some point in your life you decided that there is difference between a reason and an excuse.
How could I have been so wrong about your noble motives? You are a pillar of the community Debbie. A community of racist, bigoted hate mongering Islamophobes.

Simple logic dictates that if Islam is responsible for this shooting spree, then given the number of other Muslims out there, there should be similar shooting sprees in every major American city every day.

Brian,
I do believe that Debbie has some points that can't be denied, however i am sure she goes to the extremes. But to compare what happened last week on November 5th to Holocuast Denia, I don't see the coralation at all. i don't think that anyone has denied what happend on Nov 5th at Fort Hood, and if they did I am sure the would be living on another planet. I do believe that once most Americans don't want to believe that the act carried out on Nov 5th at Fort Hood weather terrorist or not was still done in the name of the persons religious beliefs and this can't be denied or overlooked. If people do not believe that the war on terrorism is about relegion then you need to do some more research. Are all Muslim beleivers bad no, just like all Catholic preists are not child molesters. Finally if we continue to deny that the Islamic terrorist have quit since 9/11 then just sit back and wait for the next attack and hope it won't effect you.

Steve-It was not my intent to imply that Debbie or anyone should deny the facts of what we know happened or what will be developed. It is what it is. There are however many other aspects to HD. The point as I was trying to make is that Debbie takes those same facts and using them, often distorting them to generate mass hatred against a protected class of people. That is also an element of HD. For the record, I agree with Debbie that Radical Islam is dangerous and those practicing it need to be watched closely.

Debbie has more in common with the looney tunes she hates than the billions of people of many faiths who oppose the terrorist agenda. That is the irony. She hates who she resembles.

The toughest thing on earth to do: seeing a person. Not a race, not a religion, not a sect, but a person.
Rather than focus on what happened I use my energy to pray for the families of those who passed on. May God be with them and give them strength.

I think Tad summed it up best.

Amazing Brian, i love how your preaching for peace

Great post, Brian. Interesting that killings make the killer less of a Christian, because killing is evil and Christianity condemns that, but killings make someone else even more of a Muslim because Muslims are just violent, unhinged people.
Bullshit.
Good job sticking it to Debbie WhatsHerFace. Can't we just put her, Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and a few others on an island? I'm sure they'd all be very happy there….until they found something to complain about. Which would take all of three seconds.

” At some point in your life you decided that there is difference between a reason and an excuse.”
Excellent statement. I read that tweet & simple following of your further tweets would indicate the nature of your statement – an opinion, commentary, etc. but not a rallying cry in defense of the events.
