I sat down with former New York Post Reporter and Twitter activist, Melissa Jane Kronfeld. We discussed her recent Twitter campaign to raise public awareness as to the plight of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Shalit was abducted on 25 June 2006 by Palestinian militants in a cross border raid and has been held been held in captivity by Hamas since then. In early October 2009 a video of Gilad Shalit was released by Hamas proving he was alive as of Sept 14, 2009.
Not a huge deal, especially so many years after the fact, but I'd like to clarify my view on this. Melissa and I met through Twitter. She was, in fact, doing a great job already advocating for Shalit as many people had been and still are doing, but at that point when I met her, there was no official "Tweet4Shalit" campaign –which was an idea, I thought, that evolved over time and as she I discussed things over the phone. We didn't just create the name together, but we planned and discussed the steps we would take, together, to make it a successful campaign. In my mind, though she was doing a lot to advocate for Shalit, I felt I wanted to help amplify the message. We delegated our roles – she wrote the press release and helped get it out there, and my focus was to get as many bloggers and organizations as I could involved. She also helped in that regard, especially by getting Gilad's family on board. Ultimately, it was a very successful creative partnership and I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to have worked with Melissa and G-d willing, Gilad will be free, soon!

David Appletree, your ego disgusts me.
