A lot is being made of presidential candidate Barack Obama’s connections to ACORN as well as admitted terrorist William Ayers. The version of the story you get varies widely depending on the media outlet you get your news from. If you listen to Fox News, you are waiting to hear that Obama wrote the Unibomber Manifiesto for Ted Kaczynksi. If you listen to MSNBC he is so pure of motive as to be almost oblivious to the world around him. I have no idea where the truth lies in that black hole void between the two.
Was it a judgment error on Barack Obama’s part to associate with this guy? On some level you have to say yes. Is the Ayers connection an error in judgment so catastrophic as to disqualify Barack from the presidency? I do not think so and I am a McCain supporter. Where does that leave us? John McCain has not made serious judgment errors? Neither will not make a serious judgment error in 4 years as president? I expect either one of them to make at least one much more serious judgment error as President than the Ayers connection. It is part of making the best decision you can with the information you have at the time. It is part of being human.
Unless someone shows me evidence that Obama endorses Ayer’s views through words or action past or present or that he has engaged in a systematic cover-up of his relationship it is a non-issue to me as to his overall ability to make good decisions as president. I am much more worried about his lack of experience in foreign policy than his connections to William Ayers. If he is elected hopefully he will put some great people around him experienced in foreign affairs and listen to them.
ACORN is a different story. Their tactics in various areas have long been criticized. We know that Obama represented ACORN in a 1995 lawsuit against the State of Illinois. No big deal there. That is what lawyers do. They are now accused of facilitating voter fraud. This is serious business and must be dealt with swiftly and severely. It appears the federal government agrees. A Las Vegas ACORN office was raided by the FBI. ACORN’s position is that they are also a victim and deal with fraud on behalf by their workers as they are made aware. My response to that is that you only get one ignorance pass. Once you are put on notice that fraud is occurring and you continue to do nothing about it your action or inaction is raised to the level of intentionally facilitating the fraud. I expect to see Acorn indictments within the next year.
I frankly couldn’t care less about these back and forth accusations. I am waiting for that Tuesday after the first Monday in November where I can wake, up head down to the local 7-11 , get my cup of coffee, get my apple fritter, head over to the all purpose machine, take out a 100 bucks, buy a roll of stamps, high speed download the latest blockbuster to my iPod, cast my vote, see if I got any dates on Match.com (I was rejected by E-Harmony) and check my outstanding arrest warrants.

I guess if they want to bring up the past then they should read the Associated Press Article titled “McCain linked to group in Iran-Contra affair” which appeared in today’s Dallas Morning News. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/world/stories/100808dnpolmccaincontra.3636d7d.html
As an attorney you should enjoy making decisions based on facts. Here are some facts that you need to think about prior to being wholeheartedly supportive of McCain:
See and listen to those who were the closest to McCain while in the service and listen to a fellow POW who actually shared POW cells with him:
POW Commander Phillip Butler (2 Bronze Stars, 2 Silver Stars, 2 Purple Hearts and 2 Legions of Merit)

Watch this video from Vietnam Veterans Against McCain and see if you still are a McCain believer. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4876494844130533384&ei=RAXDSMD4KoSkrQLWpPm3BQ&q=mccain+pow+video&vt=lf
Finally watch McCain simply saying what he thinks the audience wants him to say. He will give opposite answers to the same question depending on who he’s talking to:

I can’t trust someone like this and I definitely can’t gamble on having a total rookie, beauty queen, news reporter being a a simple heartbeat away from the Presidency. With her experience, you know for a fact that neither Mark nor you would even begin to consider hiring her to run your company. Why would you even begin to consider ‘hiring’ her to run an entire Nation?

I always get a chuckle when people who I have never met or had any type of relationship with tell me what I should or should not think or what I would “begin to consider” in a given situation. I appreciate that you think you know me that like that but I think I can handle it on my own.

I wish we could look forward to justice being carried out by Obama's Justice Dept. Unfortunately, I don't expect it to take any action against their buddies in ACORN. After years of Bush's "Justice" Dept. only pursuing Republicans, hounding them out of office, and then leaving Democrats alone–at least until after the election–my expectations are low. Of course, my expectations are also tempered by Obama's longtime associations with sleaze–Wright, Rezko, Blagojevich, Ayers, Emanuel, ACORN, etc., etc.–and his defenses of his friends. Finally, it is impossible to be anything other than disappointed in Obama's choice of the rubberstamping Eric Holder to be the attorney general.
